Last week was a rough one. My Grandmother on my Dad's side, Bachie, passed away a week ago today. She was 92 years old and one funny woman. I have so many memories of her from my childhood (many involving food!) and will miss her very much. Unfortunately Gavin and Camryn never got to meet her but I will make sure to tell them all about her when they are older. One good thing that came from her death is that I got to see family I never get to see. Many of them live in Florida and although we try to keep in touch via Facebook it just isn't the same. It was nice to see all of them even though the circumstances weren't the best.
By this weekend we were more than ready to get out and have some fun. We decided to take a ride to the local County Fair to use up all of our new weekly Weight Watchers points:) Of course we picked the HOTTEST day EVER to go. When we were in the shade it wasn't too terrible but in the sun, holy moly it was hot. Camryn and Gavin didn't seem to mind too much!
They both tried lemonade and really liked it. I was surprised..I though they would spit it out. Nope..they tried ripping the cup from my hands. I got a picture of Camryn with it before a fight ensued. G reached over yelling "Diiiiiinnnnnnnk:" as in "Drink" and that was the end of that. I guess we could have just gotten another one but the fact that the first one was close to 20 bucks (slight exaggeration but not by much:) we figured they'd get over it. Once we took them to see the animals lemonade was back to the bottom of the priority list.
After we ate dinner (healthy stuff..hotdogs, fries, etc. etc.) we let them out of the stroller to walk a bit with their monkey backpacks on. They did really well with them. We try to also hold their hands so they get used to that, too and they both actually stayed right with us. Not bad, not bad. We played a few games and they won a few things. The fact that Dave and I were the only 2 people playing one of the games against one another gave us an awesome chance of winning something!
We had originally planned to stay for ice cream but it was so sticky out that we ditched the fair and headed to Dairy Queen to sit in the AC instead! They each had their first cone (I usually give them spoonfuls from a cup) and were loving the fact that they got to eat it without help. There was a huge mess of course, but they LOVED it. By the way, if you live near a Dairy Queen, go NOW to get a Blizzard with Tagalongs (the peanut butter Girlscout Cookies) in it. Yum is all I have to say. Well worth the 578 Weight Watchers points it cost me. Before heading home I changed then into their pj's for the ride home in case they fell asleep (yeah right!). They both requested Dave Matthews and bopped along the way. Definitely a fun family day.
Here are the pics (and yes, I had a backup bow for when she inevitably took the headband off!)

So happy to see all of you having fun together at the fair! I think Bachie must have been smiling down from heaven.
Wow! G & C's first ice cream cones. So cute!! I love all the pics and "coverage" of the fair.
oh so you did get brave and let them loose! I must have influenced you and yes it was terribly hot there! :)
Such cuties! Glad you all had a great time at the fair!
And I have been drooling over tv commercials for the DQ Tagalong Blizzard...good to know it's worth using an entire week's worth of WW points!! :)
PS - I am sorry to hear about you losing Bachie. I'm also sorry that G&C didn't get to meet her.
